If not in the immediate family there are relatives or friends who need the help that Alcoholic Anonymous can give them Today it is a recognized fact that alcoholism is a disease Therefore the old-fashioned treatment of giving a the is inhuman unkind and uncharitable The alcoholic is just as sick as the person with tuberculosis coronary thrombosis or disease Worse he cannot be cured only helped in maintaining a life of sobriety Once he has won his way into sobriety he cannot let down but must keep up the constant vigil to keep sober Alcoholic Anonymous helps men out of alcoholism like a life guard pulling drowning men from a watery grave Their willingness to save others is one of the inspiring things about However they do not help anyone who does not seek that help No one is urged to join THE ENTIRE program is one of mutual assistance and encouragement to stay sober There are no fees or obligations or regulations When a member has attained sobriety it is out of the fullness of his heart only that he helps others to help themselves And in so doing he helps to maintain his own sobriety Alcoholic Anonymous is not a secret organization but the anonymity of its members is respected and observed It is not a religious organization but its members do admit to a greater power (whatever they want to call it God spir-rit faith or right thinking) that is more capable)! running their daily lives than they have shown them- selves to be The fellowship of Alcoholic Anonymous touches on the divine When first an alcoholic comes into he has a fear of sobriety He just picture life without whisky It sounds bleak and dull But once he accepts the program and feels that fellowship of those who understand him he finds a peace and contentment and happiness he has never experienced before He is offered the opportunity to rebuild his whole life just by availing himself of 12 steps for keeping sober THE HIGHEST instructor and friend of the alocholic is the Alcoholic Anonymous the constant and determined effort that breaks down the resistance for that first drink Anything desirable in life be it food clothing a job or sobriety is gained only by your own endeavor And sometimes the things we work for the hardest ark the things we appreciate the most and bend every effort to keep and protect Striving for sobriety through is based on humility Therefore in the movement money property or authority are not permitted beyond the bare essentials By taking away fame wealth and social prestige which weigh not one jot in the balance of God you get clearer views of the princi pies of It is a world one million miles removed from bitterness It is radiant with mercy and honesty It was the noted author Fulton Ousler who called alcoholics "charming And I heartily agree with him They can go from the sad to the ridiculous in their stories They chuckle about the past reminiscently but they have put it completely behind them Can you do the same? I AM NOT an alcoholic If were my name would not appear at the head of this article' but I have attended a number of open-to-the-public meetings and have become amazed at the most renowned movement of its kind Alcoholic Anonymous The gtoup had its start in 1934 when a man in Akron recovered from the disease of alcoholism and determined to help others Iff Mil "Holding Forth Tho Word of Life-Si 45 AM The Church School For All Ages 11:00 AM "BAPTISTS AND BELIEFS' 6:30 PM Adult Senior Junior Leagues 7:30 FM "COMMAND to Become POWER to Become" Stanley Hunt Pastor VQUTH-CHgfSr Come and Worship With Us Each Sunday i Attend One Of The Lutheran Churches In The Tri-Cities The First Lutheran Church 2ND and KENNEWICK LUVAAS Pastor 11:00 A Morning Worship IS THE MYSTERY OF 9:45 A Sunday School 7:00 Young Peoples Luther League SATURDAY NIGHT AT 7:30 Dave Carlson preacher Traveller in Mexico ana Centred America Mala Quartet Trumpeter Interdenominational Welcoming Yon FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH Washington at First Kennewick OUR LADY OF LOURDES Mr and Mrs Joseph Bond 82 Parkview Kennewick April 30 Mr and Mrs Clinton Edgerly General Delivery Pas- co April 29 Mr and Mrs Learoye Renick 41-C Navy Homes Pasco April 30 Mr and Mrs Henry Brett 1940 Yakima Pasco April 30 KADLEC HOSPITAL Mr and Mrs Nicholas Cres-cente Box 843 Richland April 28 a girl Mr and Mrs Earl Duncan Route one Richland April 29 a boy Mr and Mrs Charles Kan-gas Box 728 Benton City April 29 a boy Mr and Mrs Delvin Woody 1408 Black Court Richland April 30 a girl Although proportions vary from place to place and period to period records indicate that human twins are produced about once in 100 births triplets once in 10000 and quadruplets once in a' million GffiRffliPffilKSBI SBegjms RftamdlGiy (Continues Thru Sunday May 11th) WITH REV JOSEPH SELZ 4 The First Lutheran Church 5TH and PASCO ORVILLE HIEPLER Pastor Sunday Morning Worship 11:00 Morning Sermon taken from John s' Sunday School 9:30 Luther League Sunday 5:30 Spiritual Emphasis Week beginning Sunday evening 8 PM including Thursday istor Clifford Larson of Longview Washington iuest Speaker Special music at each meeting Mr Selz has Just returned from four weelr tour of Palestine and the far East Ha will be presenting fresh glimpses of this recent visit plus a sound Bible cantered message each evening Friends and neighbors ere invited to share the ministry of this unas- turning evangelist 730 pm One Week Only 7iiopm RICHLAND CHURCH of the NAZARENE Humphreys and Wright Edward Hum Minister Richland Lutheran Church STEVENS and VAN RICHLAND Kenneth Peisker Pastor-Elect Divine Worship 9:40 and 11:00 AM Theme: WAY iTHE TRUTH and THE John by pastor Song Service (with film on life of Paul entitled: to 8:00 PM Sunday School Intermediate :40 AM Primary 11:00 AM Luther League 6:30 PM HOT LAKE a STXND TOUI WEEKEND AT NOT XAKK OBE oa Trout WhlT- No Ucmm iKidrri Dm Huatiaf witk Camara Bait Balm with Bat Mawd Botha Stoam BOtha Boom CaakaB Koala Baaaoo-.
