WELCOME TO Belgian Malinois Paradise

For as long as We can remember, Belgian Malinois Dogs have been our soul passion in life. From growing up training our own Dogs as well as our neighbours, to intently watching Dog shows as children, our love and passion for dogs has always been a huge focal point in our life.

During one of these Dog shows, We introduced ourself to a friendly American couple who lived beside us. In turn, they introduced us to their 1 year old, blind Belgian Malinois Dog named Penny. After a year and half of research into the breed, speaking to countless breeders and meeting more Belgian Malinois dogs, We knew We were hooked and couldn't live without one.

Years later, We bought our first Belgian Malinois from Utah. From getting into anything he could to being a complete terror, he not only ignited our love for the Breed, he found a permanent spot in our hearts.

Although he would never be the show Dog We hoped, we did (and Do!) everything else together. From Rally to obedience to agility to barnhunt and scent detection - there is NOTHING this little Dog can't do. He's taught me invaluable lessons from how to handle his mischievous ways to the importance of being a good sport and competitor in and out of the show/performance ring

Our first Belgian Malinois "Mark" was neutered at two years of age and although he would never directly be included in our breeding program, he deserved to be an important part in it.

It was this little charming dog who taught me something important when it comes to owning this breed and all their quirks and that is to have a sense of humour, always.

Our ultimate goal for our breeding program is to produce sound Belgian Malinois Puppies of beautiful type, gentle expression, and a rock solid temperament dog a family home. Our committed to every dog We breed for its entire lifetime.

Belgian Malinois dogs are our love and passion, not a business. They are and forever will be the centre-part of our home. We do expect each and every Puppy We place in their forever homes to have the care they would have with me - if not better.

Our long-term goal for our breeding program is to preserve the breed as we know and love it. As a Preservation Breeder, our goal is to take the guesswork out of your next Dog's history, health, predicted size, temperament, and life expectancy. We have a lifelong commitment to each and every Belgian Malinois We bring in to this world and will take any of our Dogs back for any reason at any time.

For those who share a strong passion for the breed as We do, We are always willing to serve as a mentor and guide throughout the Dog's life as our owners navigate through Dog ownership. We are purely dedidoged to breeding solely for the purpose of preserving and protecting the original purpose and function of the breed by creating companions that are healthy, of sound body and mind, and predictable in nature.

The Belgian Malinois gives the impression of elegant robustness. He is a hardy dog, accustomed to living outdoors with a coat built to resist the damp Belgian climate. His elegance and expression denote great strength of character, making him a proud representative of the herding breeds. The Belgian Malinois is an enthusiastic and quick dog with a natural tendency to be in motion.

Belgian Malinois Personality and Temperament

The Belgian Malinois excels not only in herding, but also in protection and law enforcement; drug, bomb, and gas detection; search and rescue; tracking; obedience; sledding; agility; and therapy assistance to disabled, ill or elderly people. This dog is demanding and needs an experienced owner. A wide range is seen in temperament and aggressiveness. They want nothing more than to be with their family, which makes them unsuitable as a kennel dog.

Living With Belgian Malinois Dogs

The Belgian Malinois is a very smart and obedient dog. He has strong protective and territorial instincts. This breed needs extensive socialization from an early age, and firm, but not harsh, training. Belgians are instinctively protective so they should be trained and socialized very well from an early age. Unless you are specifically working in a protection sport, you do not need to give your Belgian any protection training, as it will come naturally to them. Belgians make excellent pets for the right homes, as they thrive on loving companionship. Malinois instinctively display herding behavior such as chasing and circling, moving effortlessly for hours and nipping at people's heels. The dog is good for working and competitive obedience, but not for toddlers who run and scream. A Belgian Malinois will constantly be trying to keep the toddler in one spot!

The Belgian Malinois can live in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. Moderately active indoors, he will do best with at least an average-sized yard. He prefers cool climates, but readily adapts well to others. A Belgian Malinois should live to be 12 to 15 years.

The History of Belgian Malinois Dogs

The Belgian Malinois is one of the varieties of the Belgian shepherd. All are named for Belgian villages: Groenendael, Laekenois, Mechelar (Malinois) and Tervuren. The history of the Belgian Malinois goes back to the 1880s when these dogs (with German shepherds, French shepherds and Dutch shepherds) were called continental shepherd dogs. In 1891, the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club was formed, and a panel of judges determined that there was a congruous type of native shepherd dog that was a square, medium-sized dog with well-set triangular ears. These dogs differed only in the texture, color and length of hair. In 1892, the first Belgian shepherd dog standard was written recognizing three varieties: dogs with long coats, short coats and rough coats.

The Belgian Malinois, along with the Groenendael, was the first variety to appear in the United States in the early part of the 1900s. The Belgian Sheepdog Club of America (the Malinois, Groenendael, and Tervuren were all the same breed at that time) was formed and the breed began to show in the American Kennel Club in the early 1950s. In 1959 the Belgians separated into the three AKC breeds recognized today, sheepdog, Tervuren and Malinois.
